Blog Reboot

My Fading Suns/d6 Space conversion project has obviously been fairly inactive lately. This has been the result of a combination of things including a lack of motivation and vacation time. While I do intend to return to this project at a later date, I have decided it is time to reboot this blog to incorporate other aspects of my true favourite genre, sci-fi horror. Two games in this genre have been released in the last year that I find really inspiring, CthulhuTech and Eclipse Phase. Both have aspects I like and others I dislike. CthulhuTech is clearly the true sci-fi horror game. Nothing defines the absolute horror of the Void more completely than the Cthulhu Mythos. On the other hand, the game mechanics of CthulhuTech are, in my opinion, clunky and gimmicky. Also, I'm not a fan of anime-style mecha.

Eclipse Phase explores some very interesting concepts involving technology and transhumanism, although at present, the horror aspects of the campaign setting take a backseat to the predominent future-shock and post-apocalyptic themes. I'm hoping some of the future releases will expand upon the kernels of horror that do exist. The game engine is a fairly straightforward d100 system and the character options are more extensive than any game I've ever seen.

At some point in the near future, I will be embarking on a space horror campaign and at the moment, I'm leaning heavily toward Eclipse Phase. Look to this site for details.
